      Service Learning Seminar 2020: July 13-17, 2020

The Service Learning Seminar is a 4.5 day professional development opportunity for P-12, after school and UNO teachers and administrators to learn about service learning as a method of instruction. Sessions are held Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. The goal of the Seminar is for P-12, after school, UNO faculty and community partner teams to develop a collaborative service learning project that can be implemented within the next 18 months. To achieve this, the following learning outcomes have been identified: 1. Participants increase awareness of the Omaha community, their needs, assets, personnel, and practice. 2. Participants demonstrate understanding of the Pre-K-12 Service-Learning Standards for Quality Practice (NYLC, 2008) 3. Participants understand the benefits of service learning and its connections to other key frameworks such as: AAC&U High Impact Practices, 40 Developmental Assets, 21st Century Skills, and standards-driven curriculum. 4. UNO, P-12, after school program faculty, and community partners build collaborative relationships and begin service learning project planning. 5. Participants are prepared to create quality service learning experiences. A modest stipend or professional development fee is included. Participants are expected to attend the majority of the week-long Seminar. For more information about the UNO Service Learning Academy, visit our website at
